Florida State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), the Florida Association for Hazardous Materials Responders, and various vendors to the emergency response community will be hosting the 2024 Hazardous Materials Team Competition on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Volusia County Fire Rescue Training Facility during the Annual Hazardous Materials Symposium.
​​*Please note* There is no charge to register for the Team Competition. However, registering for the team competition does not gain you entry into the general conference. Each person who plans on attending the conference must also register separately. The cost for the conference is $225 per person.

Competition Team Make-Up
Competition teams shall be comprised of three primary members and one (optional) alternate. All members must be currently assigned as a hazardous materials technician with the fire service, law enforcement, private sector or other local, state, or federal government agency.
The alternate may only be used if one of the primary team members becomes physically incapable of continuing the competition. Otherwise, mid-competition substitution with the alternate will not be permitted.

Capabilities Assessed
The competition shall be assessed based upon the capabilities defined by the Florida Fire Chief’s Association typing standard for a Type III Hazardous Materials Resource. This definition can be found in the State Emergency Response Plan in the publications sector of the Florida Fire Chief's Association webpage at www.ffca.org.
The standards utilized for the development of this competition is based upon:
a) the current SERC training standard;
b) FSFC HazMat Technician;
c) Applicable NFPA Standards.
